I’m NOT selfish. I’m SELF-FULL: 5 Tips to get yo’ emotions right!

As you know and maybe even have felt, last week was quite a doosey for us here in the U.S. for apparent reasons. I think it’s time for us to check-in. How are you doing?

No seriously. How are you? 

Research shows that race-based trauma can create symptoms much like PTSD. Repeated race-based trauma puts your emotional psychological, and physical well-being at risk.*

In other words, “Chile, give your brain and spirit a break!”

My fellow believers and achievers, I have a confession. I, Chianti Lomax, took a mental health break for a few days. Before I continue, let me be VERY clear. I’m completely committed to the cause. I’ve made some personal and financial commitments to the movement, and will continue to be involved in the charge towards justice.

Back to YOU. Have you taken your moment to reset? I am a committed member of the self-care ministry. I believe that self-care is a vital tool for survival. You MUST, not might, but MUST take time to recharge your mind, body, and spirit. Trust me. I know it can be so tempting to keep scrolling, to keep reading, to keep up the good fight. Know this Sis (or Brother), it’s just as important to rest and restore as a means to refill your energy.

You’re much more powerful and impactful on a full tank of energy. I took a few days to gather my thoughts and my energy.  Now, I’m feeling rested and most importantly armed with light + love.

I want you to keep fighting the good fight, but before you sign one more petition, before you post one more comment. Take a few minutes to evaluate where you are mentally and physically. Even if it’s for an hour or so.

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t leave you with a few practical ways to recharge your mental and physical battery. Check below for 5 ways to master your own self-care in the wake of what’s happening in the world around you. Oh! If you try out a few of these actions, send me a message to share your thoughts. 5 Ways to Reset Post-Emotional and Psychological Trauma:

  • Disconnect + Retreat: Pick a timeframe where you commit to taking time to yourself. Away from social media/tv.
  • Hydrate + Move:  Drinks tons of H2O AND Find a few fun physical activities to partake in to blow off some of that steam. 
  • Reconnect + Communicate: Grab a few friends and spend some real quality time. Share your feelings, but don’t forget to share a few jokes as well!
  • Rest + Eat + Repeat: Get sleep boo! Your body needs it. Don’t forget to fill your body up with a few good veggies/fruit while you’re at it.

Just remember, you MUST put on your own oxygen mask first before you can breathe life into anyone else. Most importantly, you need YOU to be the healthiest version of yourself.
